Stayed at Sails In The Desert - Ayers Rock, Australia.

Ayers Rock and the Olgas were just amazing. We chose to rent a car and do it on our own rather than join all of the tours available. I would highly recommend doing so!! Seeing the sunrise from the Olgas was fantastic and we were happy to see that it is not as crowded there and a really unique perspective on both Ayers and the Olgas. Regarding all hikes - be sure to get out there early in the morning as trails tend to close early due to weather conditions (heat and wind). And beware of the flies!!! We were walking miles upon miles waving our arms to keep them out of our face and off our bodies (they are harmless...they don't bite but are such a nuisance!). However, as much as that was a pain it didn't take away from the beauty or experience of being there!!

Very interesting area. We took a three day (escorted) trip to Uluru and Kings Canyon which was thrilling but arduous!! In town we recommend Bojangles bar. Also the walk up Anzac Hill. All of Alice VERY friendly. Beware the flies though.

Hotel recommended QualityCars as a hire car firm. Poor staff attitude and hazardous pick up driver made us swear not to use service again...

Sydney is Supreme. Very safe city for the most part. I only felt vulnerable in the area in and around Chinatown. Please note that the Airport Express route has changed and is different from the brochures given out around the city. If you go by the brochure, you'll be waiting for a bus that will never arrive. Take the train to the airport.

We didn't spend a lot of time in Melbourne itself. We found the train very easy to travel on. Downtown shopping was good. So many places to see. Make sure to leave a lot of time to get through the airport for international flights. It took us just over 2 hours to check in at the United counter. They were randomly checking bags. Then another hour or so to go through customs and security. We arrived at the airport 3 hours in advance, and made it to our plane just in time for boarding--No time for duty-free shopping.

First trip to Oz and I am in love with Melbourne! This city has it all - food, nightlife, culture, beaches, ethnic diversity - and a splendidly clean, attractive and well-maintained environment. Best of all is the genial, easy-living, do-as-you-please style of the locals. Be careful of the sun however - there's not much ozone here and it's easy to fry without even realising easy. The flip side of course (at least when I visited) was an amazing clear, pure light in which colours and shadows seemed that much rich and vibrant(the only other place where I've seen something similar is Greece).

We had unusually bad weather and most activities were cancelled due to the
rain and its effects. The restaurants were very good.

Cairns is a lovely place, very easy to see everything as it is quite compact. Went on a reef tour which was very good and also went to Palm Cove for the day. We couldnt get in the water at all because of stingers so its worth checking before you go to a beach what the water conditions are!
