Go to Turkey and be a multimillionaire! End of December 2004, we were among the last ones to enjoy millions over millions of Turkish Lira in our wallets. From 2005 they delete 6 zeros.
Seriously, Istanbul is a great place and we`ll go there again.
Recommend to stay near Taksim square where all the uncountable restaurants and bars are within a short walk in the evening, and see the other parts of the city during the day.

I highly recommend a restaurant called "Flamm" which is quite close (ask the hotel). It's very L.A.-meets-Istanbul. A five-star experience for 3-star prices.

See the Whirling Dervishes at the Mehlevi Monastery (just a short walk from the hotel), also the Galatasaray fish market (also a short walk from the hotel). Cabs to Sultanahmet are inexpensive and easy to get if you have the hotel call one for you. Being a single woman travelling alone, I enjoyed the feeling of security being at the Richmond Hotel Istanbul.

The hotel is not centrally located. However, the Metro station is just ten minutes' walk away, and it takes another ten minutes to reach the city centre. Far preferable to sitting in Istanbul traffic jams in a taxi...

I have visited Istanbul many times which speaks for itself. I particularly enjoyed a meal taken at the Four Seasons restaurant on the Istikal Caddesi.

Very busy and plently to see. Visit the Grand Bazaar - remember to haggle and compare prices before you leave home.
Florida Travel on the main road into the center is very good, a lot cheaper than the travel companies advertising in the hotel.
Try to visit Gallipoli and Troy, both can be done in one trip - we used Florida Travel as above.
Be careful of the supermarket opposite the hotel as it doesn't display any prices and changes anything.
If you walk down the side of the hotel, their are two restauarants, one on the corner and one further along (on the side road) which are both excellent.
Also the gift shop opposite the 1st restaurant is very good, very well priced with excellent staff.
