Stayed at Kyjev - Bratislava, Slovakia.

If you come in June (and I believe July and possibly August) the regular musical and theater life goes on hold, but there are free concerts and reasoably priced ones just about every night with every kind of music. There's an interesting Irish connection and a great Irish pub not far from the Main Square in the Old Town....Do not miss a chance to take a cruise on the Danube. And the antique stores are fascinating (esp. for Art Nouveau) if out of my price range.

Bratislava is an old world communist city which does not get a lot of western tourists. Not much to see or visit, would not recommend this stop and would go directly to Budapest.
