Stayed at Botel Albatros Prague - Prague, Czech Republic.

Prague was the last city we visited before we returned to Frankfurt by Eurail to fly home. Prague is truly one of the most beautiful cities we had visited during this 5-countries trip. However, this was also the place where we had our only glitch! We went to the wrong station as we were ready to take the train back to Frankfurt. It slipped our minds that there are more than one train station here. So we did not even know the name of the station where we came in and where we should leave. From that wrong station, we asked people and were led to another wrong one nearby. Finally we realized that we were actually going to Dresden (where we woould change train) and not Frankfurt! When we found out the name of the right station, we were desparate to get a taxi to be there on time. Unfortunately, seeing our desparation, the line of taxi drivers would ask for an outrageous 1,000 Krone to take us. This is like 3-4 times what it should be. My husband tried bargaining with them (at least 3 were there!) Finally, one was kind enough to take us to our destination...and we emptied our pockets for him, almost 400 Krones, which was saved to be my souvenir money! So, instead of being robbed by gypsies, we were robbed by taxi drivers in Prague!

Stayed at Aparthotel Julis Prague - Prague, Czech Republic.

Prague is a wonderful city with fabulous restaurants (I recommend Pravda), and the city is small enough to see on foot which makes this hotel ideal because of its central location.

Stayed at Grand Zvon - Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic.
|
Ceske Budejevice is a very historic town with a wonderful baroque centre but indifferent soviet era suburbs. The famous Budvar brewery was a bit of a disapointment however - tour given was perfunctory and only in Czech ( due to the off - season )but the brewery pub was cosy. Dining out etc, is far cheaper in CB than in Prague although much less English is spoken - no problem if you are resonably self confident. Try the Maly Pivovar (turn right and right again form the Grand Zvon) - the downstairs pub has excellent food and superb beer as it is run by the Budvar Brewery. CB is an excellent base to visit Cesky Krumlov (31Km) which has a excellent castle (with a bear pit containing three Russian bears), cobbled streets, etc - looks almost too perfect. Don't bother with a guided tour or a bus from CB - take the very friendly and charming local train from CB to CK (1 hour - US$3 return) and find your own way around CK. If you like Czech beer ( and who doesnt?) try the little workman's buffet on the platform at CK station whilst you wait for the last train back to CB (6 pm) - a 0.5 litre Pilsner is just US$ 0.50. No one speaks English but so what? If you like beer, you are an honorary Czech!

Prague was very enjoyable, well worth visiting, reasonable value except for hotel accommodation which was similar to developed cities in terms of cost without the quality.

Stayed at Elite Hotel - Prague, Czech Republic.

Prague is a very interesting location. Czec airlines cancelled a flight and were not very helpful. Service standards in the city are poor, but the location and value for money make up for this.

Prague is terrific. Definitely do a guided tour of the castle and walk the other neighborhoods yourself. It was a great time.
