The Great Northern is perfectly situated within walking access to the shops and some good resturants. We enjoyed a meal at "Cantina" which is an Italian resturant nearby, but our favourite one was Hallam's seafood on the river. Taxi drivers are extremely courteous and helpful.

Coming from a busy city, we found Launceston a charming city with a relaxed pace of life. Getting around the city was very easy and we walked all the time. We visited Cataract Gorge which was marvellous. In a city with many fine restaurants, we would recommend Restaurant Synergy and Stillwater River Cafe.
