If driving, road signs in Hobart can be a bit tricky as not all junctions have signposted roads. You will have to be very adept at map reading (and have an accurate map) and at the same time maintain a decent speed (traffic in Hobart can be heavy during peak hours). However, after a day or two, getting around in Hobart was a breeze. Try and make the trip up to Mt Wellington but I think that it may be a good idea if the trip was planned for the afternoon as it was rather cloudy the morning we went - no view. For excellent Italian cuisine, do not miss Da Angelos.

We rented a car upon arrival in Hobart and spent our time exploring Tasmania. We toured Hobart, Launceston and Port Arthur and many points along the way. Five days were all we had to enjoy on this beautiful island. We highly recommend at least a week to see it from top to bottom. We met people who were spending two weeks and were highly jealous!

We found a hire car essential. We had three days and visited, Port Arthur, Mount Wellington and the Airwalk. Restaurants Mures seafood restaurant (we went twice) was excellent as was Mr Wooby's.

Tasmania is beautiful. Althought I didn't get around to too many attractions, the places I did visit were very nice. I went to the top of Mt. Wellington and the view was lovely. Salamanca Point is very nice on a Sunday afternoon. I enjoyed walking up the street to St. David's Park. University of Tasmania has a nice and casual feel about it.

Not much to do there when it rains. Mount Wellington was absolutely beautiful.
Had a very good dinner at Rockefellers.

Good part of town (Battery Point) near the big Saturday outdoor market, and fairly near downtown and the harbour tours. Very cold,
windy and raining in mid September mixed with nice days.
