Stayed at Akol - Canakkale / Gallipoli, Turkey.
|
We chose Canakkale as a rest stop between Istanbul and Assos, but found it had more to offer than we were expecting. A good mixture between a traveller's centre and a busy commercial town.
The only trip we took in our short stay was a dolmus to Troy (Truva) which we really enjoyed - not as big as we expected but a good demonstration of the layers of city upon city.

Stayed at Sheraton Voyager - Antalya, Turkey.

Antalya has everything but you never feel like you are in a big city. Good shopping and restaurants and plenty cultural heritage nearby to explore and discover. Marina restaurants lovely but pricey. Worth wandering a little further up the hill to get a better deal.

Stayed at Richmond Hotel Istanbul - Istanbul, Turkey.
|
See the Whirling Dervishes at the Mehlevi Monastery (just a short walk from the hotel), also the Galatasaray fish market (also a short walk from the hotel). Cabs to Sultanahmet are inexpensive and easy to get if you have the hotel call one for you. Being a single woman travelling alone, I enjoyed the feeling of security being at the Richmond Hotel Istanbul.

Very busy and plently to see. Visit the Grand Bazaar - remember to haggle and compare prices before you leave home.
Florida Travel on the main road into the center is very good, a lot cheaper than the travel companies advertising in the hotel.
Try to visit Gallipoli and Troy, both can be done in one trip - we used Florida Travel as above.
Be careful of the supermarket opposite the hotel as it doesn't display any prices and changes anything.
If you walk down the side of the hotel, their are two restauarants, one on the corner and one further along (on the side road) which are both excellent.
Also the gift shop opposite the 1st restaurant is very good, very well priced with excellent staff.
