The Rocks is great for strolling, shopping and dining. Wolfies at the waterfront has great steaks. Wildfire is worth a try. But if you have time and money and you are a gourmet you have to try Tetsuya in Kent street. Book well in advance but it could be the experience of a lifetime.

Better stay away from Ackland street which is too rough. St. Kilda has nice restaurants in Fitzroy street, especially Cafe di Stasio.

The Great Northern is perfectly situated within walking access to the shops and some good resturants. We enjoyed a meal at "Cantina" which is an Italian resturant nearby, but our favourite one was Hallam's seafood on the river. Taxi drivers are extremely courteous and helpful.

I had gotten a tip from a fellow traveller about the Anderson Bus Tour - Blue Mountain Region (ask for David). The tour was excellent. Other musts are a tour of the Opera House, Circular Quay, Darling Harbor and of course, George St. Eateries are plentiful and many of the cafe type. Plan to spend time at the outdoor market at The Rocks on Saturday. The pace is leisurely (I did a lot of walking) and the Australians enjoy the sunny outdoors.

Hastings street is a wonderful street with shops, dining and the tourist office. The most visited national park is at your doorstep - Noosa National Park. The short circuit was perfect for the children. North of Noosa is a 60km stretch of beach which one can drive on with a 4-wd during low tide. It is well worth the drive. We ate at Bistro C, Ma Mensa (we ate there twice and they were very accommodating when we asked for a lunch item at dinner, Seasons to name a few.

Melbourne is a fantastic friendly city - well worth a visit. Try the Rialto Tower for a bird's eye view. Eat at the Taxi in Federation Square; and have a coffee in C&J's down the arcade.

Stayed at Swiss Grand Resort & Spa Bondi Beach - Sydney, Australia.

I would not recommend Bondi Beach at Xmas as after 22.00HRS there is nothing and no alcohol is served. Furthermore the service at the cafes and eateries along Bondi was shocking (excluding Icebergs and NAM)- from the staffs attitude and lazinesss you would think that the food and drinks were FREE! Sydney Kings Cross (Heaven) was only a taxi ride away (15 Dollars) So I would recommend getting a hotel downtown and doing the day trip. When in Sydney - Tank, Icebergs, Hugos, The Sheaf, The White Horse, ARC and Columbian are a must!

A new rail link from Mandurah to the city is being built and there will be some traffic disruption while this work is in progress. While in Perth I also visited Kalbarri in the north; a very quiet and peaceful holiday resort,a place where you can really get away from it all. It is popular for fishing and sightseeing in the Kalbarri National Park. A trip well worth making.
Service in restaurants can be poor at times, but one I would recommend is The Greek on James Street in Northbridge where you will find a Greek nouvelle cuisine type of eating. If you are staying in Perth for at least a week it is worth buying a MultiRider ticket for travel on buses and trains, available for 10 or 40 trips. This card is due to be replaced later this year by a SmartRider card which can be topped up with extra funds direct from your bank account or, I believe, by additional cash payments at the TransPerth travel offices. I found public transport safe and reliable, and used it mainly for travelling to the beach at Swanbourne (30 minutes by bus from Perth city centre) which is also the local nudist beach.
